Zone Routing / Pick Modules

The most efficient picking is performed when the worker is only required to touch cartons/totes with picks from their assigned zone.  Hence a good Warehouse Controls System (WCS) provides zone-skipping and loop-routing of cartons based on order content.  Additionally, the slotting of SKUs must be balanced to ensure daily work is evenly distributed among the workers with relatively even walking distances.  Significant design and SKU analysis is necessary to ensure the storage medium within the pick module is selected appropriately. Replenishment rules must be applied to identify whether pallet flow, carton flow, or shelving is best suited. Multiple level pick modules provide opportunity for initial investment with future growth when needed.
